I created this piece portraying the special bond between a little baby girl and her dog. She is very shy and sensitive around strangers, but if there is a new pet to meet, her face lights up and she loves them immediately. Based on my personal experience there is a special connection that children and pets can have with each other. Pets can give you a joy and peace rarely found in other places. French writer, Anatole France, once said that, “.. until one has loved an animal a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” Many of my paintings include both children and pets and the innocence and unconditional love they share together. This is evidenced with “pet therapy” becoming an important part of helping children heal from abusive and difficult circumstances. Pets can help reduce stress and depression and promote physical and mental balance. This painting depicts this extraordinary bond.
Brynlee and Skippy
This is a picture of my granddaughter, Brynlee, with our new Toy Sheltie puppy, Skippy. They both love spending time together, and have been an inspiration to paint. It gives me joy to paint pets and children that are dear to people's hearts.
